* Toddlers start nursery or "foundation" level education on their third birthday after September.
This phase introduces them to the education system, however it is usually part time and not compulsory.
* From the age of 4-7 years children join infant school. The infant school is usually housed together with the primary school.
* From ages 7-11 years children join the primary school, this can also be called years 3-6. These are the years when children are preparing for high school or more "academic" education..
* After that ages 11-16 are high school years, also known in the UK as secondary school.. All students will take GCSE (general certificate of education) examinations at the age of 16 or when they reach school year 10.
* "Sixth form" is not compulsory, however if a student wants to join a University they must study 2 further years to take A level examinations.. This is from age 16-18 or school years 11 and 12.
